The British Mandate in Palestine free essay sample
With the McMahon correspondence between the Arabs and the British, Britainââ¬â¢s government supported the establishment of an independent Arab state, a completely contradictory promise by the Balfour Declaration were the British promised to support the creation of a Jewish home in Palestine. Despite all of these promises and the purpose set by the League of Nations, the British mandate was trying to establish two things, the building of a Jewish National homeland and the preparation of the population for a self-government nation. Throughout the region, Arabs were angered by Britainââ¬â¢s failure to fulfill its promise to create an independent Arab state and instead support the national Jewish homeland in Palestine. This situation caused some Arabs to oppose to the British mandate causing trouble between the British, Arabs and Jews in the region, trouble that got out of the hands of the British government. Every time the British tried to create a new compromise, both sides would reject it because it was either too little or too much for one party or the other, resulting in violent waves, making the state much more unstable. The first White Paper was issued by Winston Churchill stating that a national home did not mean making all of Palestine into a Jewish nation and that Jewish immigration would be regulated. From this day, every new gave of Jewish immigration resulted in riots and each beginning of violence resulted in an investigation by the Royal Commission, requested by the British to try to figure out what was going wrong. A total of five Royal Commissions occurred throughout the Mandate and all of them said that the guidelines set up by the British were all contradictory with one another. With every bad thing there must be a good one. Throughout the Mandate the economy of Palestine grew and an increase in the standard of living was seen. Jews that migrated into Palestine were mostly wealthy and as they kept coming into the region the more they would invest in buying land from the Arabs. It is estimated that about one-third of the population was Jewish and yet they were responsible for about 80% of the economic productivity. The Jews brought modern European manufacturing and farming methods while the Arabs were just primarily involved in traditional agriculture. If the British mandate wouldnââ¬â¢t have supported the idea of a Jewish national homeland en Palestine, Palestineââ¬â¢s economy wouldnââ¬â¢t have grown as much as it did compared to its Arabs neighbors economy. The British Mandate was like a roller coaster for Britain, with ups but mostly downs. Within the Mandate the British were unable to keep its promises with the Jews and Arabs. They were unable to maintain control in the region between the two parties and depended on the Royal Commissions advice. Despite all of these, it is important to recognize that Britain helped with the economic growth of Palestine, if they hadnââ¬â¢t allowed Jewish immigration this growth would have not been possible. Britainââ¬â¢s main purposes with the mandate in Palestine were not accomplished; Britain ended up stepping out and left these two people to fight amongst each other and to figure everything out on their own, it seemed that in the end the British gained enemies instead of allies with the Jews and Arabs.

African Predators essays
African Predators essays The top African predators are constantly competing with each other. Even though there is some type of hierarchy within the desert, all predators have some type of competition going on. For one thing, when one animal is killed, all of the predators try to get it. Therefore, the strongest, fastest, and smartest usually gets to keep the prey. However, other adaptations like smell and hearing give certain animals advantages over one another. Some interference competition that goes on is when, lets say for example a hyena kills a springbok. Within a few minutes there will be more hyenas, a pack of jackals, and maybe leopard, all competing for the same prey that was originally caught by one, single, hyena. Some exploitation competition that occurs is simply just the order of the top predators. For example, the chances that a leopard will go up to a lion who has a kill and try to take it from him is very rare, mainly because that leopard knows that he will not be able to defend itse lf. Each animal knows its limits and will not surpass them. The predators that have the closest niche are the lions and the hyenas. I do not think that they are close enough for the law of competitive exclusion to occur because the lions are too big and fierce for the hyenas that they dont even bother to compete for prey in the same area. I think that all of the predators are specialists. Over the past thousands of years, animals have evolved to be fit for their ecosystem. Therefore each one of the animals in the African Deserts have special characteristics that are extremely beneficial to them and set them apart from the rest. These special adaptations are what allow these animals to be specialists and not just generalists. ...

Government's role in Marketing Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Government's role in Marketing - Research Paper Example The two most important economic factors that affect international marketing are: 1. The industrial structure of a country 2. The income distribution of a country. The product and service needs of a country are shaped by the countryââ¬â¢s industrial structure. There are 4 main types of industrial structures. They are as follows: 1. Subsistence economies: People consume what they grow and such an economy offers very few market opportunities. 2. Raw material exporting economies: Economies wealthy in one or more than one natural resources but poor otherwise. Such countries are excellent markets for large equipment etc and for luxury goods if a wealthy upper class is present. 3. Industrializing economies: Manufacturing accounts for 10-20% of the countryââ¬â¢s economy. These countries are a good market for raw textile materials, heavy machinery, steel etc. A new affluent class and a small middle class are usually created by the on going industrialization, both of which require new types of imported foreign goods. 4. Industrial economies: Services and manufactured goods are the chief exports of industrial economies.. A large middle class usually exists making industrial economies an ideal market for all sorts of goods.... Low, medium and high income households may exist in industrialized economies whereas a subsistence economy may exist of mostly very low income households. However, developing or even poor economies may be attractive markets for all kinds of goods. The best example in this case is China. Even though China has only 0.2 millionaires per 1000 residents it trails only the US, Germany and the UK in the total number of millionaires because of its large population. (Kotler, 2008) The cultural elements that affect international marketing include: The different ways in which potential customers in different countries use and think about certain goods e.g. an average Frenchman uses twice as many grooming aids and cosmetics as his wife (Kotler, 2008). Cultural norms and regulations of each country e.g. Nike inadvertently offended Arabs and Muslims when it released shoes with a stylized ââ¬Å"Airâ⬠logo which resembled Allah in Arabic script (National Geographic, 1999). Business norms and b ehaviors also play a very important role in international trade. Question 3: The political risks in international marketing involve: 1. Negative attitude of host government towards foreign firms. For e.g. Currency restrictions, import quotas etc might be imposed on the foreign to make life difficult for them. 2. Monetary regulations. Buyerââ¬â¢s government might impose restrictions on removal of a currency from the country leaving the seller no option but to receive payment in the blocked currency and getting their profits stuck. 3. Political instability is another risk associated with international trade. A major example of this phenomenon is the Dell Brazil case. Dell chose the Brazilian state of Rio Grande Do Sul as the site for its

Free College Essay President Obama has outlined his proposal to offer the first two years of community college free for students, or as he has said in his speech ââ¬Å"to lower the cost of community college ââ¬â to zero. â⬠Obama believes that whether young or old, just starting out, or simply looking for a better job, this could benefit millions of Americans. The program would provide tuition-free classes for students going to school at least half time who maintain a GPA of 2. 5 or higher and are trying to obtain a higher degree or are transferring to a four-year institution. The proposal would require federal government to cover 75 percent of the average cost of community college, and the program calls for states to pick up the remaining quarter of the tab. Overall, this proposal could benefit the American population and thus better the American nation. The most crucial reason why this proposal will succeed is that more people in America will attend college. This will all around have a positive have an effect on American society, and economy. Lowering the unemployment rate can help to reduce many factors such as, crime rate, well-fare, and overall national debt. On the other hand, community colleges may become over crowded due to the increased number of students. Despite this minor complication, having more people attend college is in America would be phenomenal. A majority of Americans believe the cost of a college education at a state university, or community college is unaffordable. Having the first two years of community college free will open up opportunities to many. This will allow students first starting out to begin their educational course debt free. College debt is a major problem in todays society, and holds back many from achieving higher goals. However, passage of a bill making community college free could have a dramatic effect on the cost of higher education. If community college is free, many other schools will have to lower their prices in order to stay competitive. Free higher education, even if only for two years, could be a game-changer. Passage of Obamaââ¬â¢s proposal is far from a sure thing. If it does pass, at this point the best we can do is speculate about the different possibleà outcomes. However, we do know one thing for sure. Obamaââ¬â¢s proposal is a bold approach to fixing a broken higher education system. Student loan borrowers are reminded of how badly broken the system is each month they pay huge student loan bills. The more that can be done to fix this system, the better. Overall, this bill will benefit most Americans. If Obamaââ¬â¢s proposal is given passage it will create an abundance of opportunities for American citizens. These opportunities include: more job positions, a thriving economy, expansion, etc. In spite of the endless benefits, at the end of the day someone is responsible for paying the two-year ââ¬Å"freeâ⬠tuition. This causes question to tax payers and the state on the tab they are left to pick up. Although, taxes may increase, the decrease in student loans will greatly outweigh the cost. In conclusion, this bill can aid anyone from past generations to new, young to old, starting out or going back. This could change the entire way of American society for the better and continually push American as a nation in the right direction.

Dreamchild Essay -- Science Fiction Dreamchild Essas
Dreamchild How real are aliens? Do they really exist? Are they a frigment of our imagination, or something we have created in our minds to release our fears and tensions? These questions have never been proven, but several theories have been raised on their nature and existence. Literature has taken these abstract thoughts and put them to reality on paper. Science fiction is a genre of literature that is frequently misinterpreted by general readers. Aside from the stereotypes of alien invasions in science fiction, this genre uses the concepts of reality and expands on it; it deviates from the truth, reads the future, and answers the questions many humans fear. Analyzing the structure of the novel Dreamchild, and comparing Hillary Hemingway and Jeffry P. Lindsay writing style to other science fiction novelist, one can see how they stay within the stereotype of science fiction literature. The many differences in sci-fi books are exposed when reading this particular book and others of this kind. W hen reading this work of fiction, the reader gains some insight into the author's mind and his imagination. Authors who chose to write in the genre of sci-fi have the opportunity to use their thoughts and emotions and incorporate it into their novels. Anyone can conjure up some fictional tale and make it come to life in some form of literature. Some science fiction writers take the facts of today's society and plays on its fears, while others fabricate a whole new world and bring it to life. Using societies' doubt of extraterrestrial life, Hemingway and Lindsay portray the effect on society as if they truly existed. These writers focused on the traditional storyline of an alien invasion. The dream child, Max, is a hybrid, half human an... ...r intelligence intensifies, subjects like this will soon become a reality. So do aliens really exist? To my knowledge, no they do not exist. However as long as it is still a myth, books like Dreamchild will continue to be written predicting the occurrences of an alien invasion. Science fiction novels are great to read for readers that enjoy using their imaginations as they read along. For its genre and subject matter this novel was effective and detailed to an extent. Books such as this are necessary for us because we need an outside world to escape to; a world that can bring answeres to the questions we fear. Works Cited Hemingway, Hillary and Jeffry P. Lindsay. Lack of Respect for Nurses Essay
Lack of Respect for Nurses According to a journal of Palliative Medicine ââ¬Å"The basis of a professional relationship associates trust, respect, commitment , truthfulness, and compliance to the expertise of a fellow workerâ⬠(Paul Rousseau of Palliative Medicine, 2004, p.753). All of us need to respect each other because to earn respect you must show respect. According to a nurse practitioner Olivia (Journal for Nurse Practitioners, 2007) ââ¬Å"A lack of respect can create a barrier to effective collaboration, showing respect would be giving remarks about oneââ¬â¢s educational background, showing respect toward other health professionals, or not expressing feelings of being superior to the nurse practitioner. This has the potential to affect NPââ¬â¢s motivation toward quality of care and possibly job satisfactionâ⬠(p.548) The data collected by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2012) confirmed that nursing represents the nationââ¬â¢s largest healthcare profession with more than 3.1 million nurses and 2.6 million licensed RNs. Nursing can be a satisfying profession; however, nurses continue to experience lack of respect from their patients, doctors, administrators, and even from their coworkers. Due to the increase number of nurses, many hospitals canââ¬â¢t hire more nurses resulting to unemployment. Because of that it decreases the rate of taking Nursing course in college. Some people says Why do you take up Nursing?, you canââ¬â¢t get job when you graduate or you will end up working on a Call center. They donââ¬â¢t know that nursing students study hard, practice a lot to improve skills and other things that other people canââ¬â¢t do. Respect is the word that is missing here, respect for the people who chose nursing and the profession that nursing students are proud of.
